Departing from Ranco on the Lombard shore of Lake Maggiore, after about 10 km you pass onto the Piedmontese shore, crossing the bridge over the Ticino at Sesto Calende. From there, on an almost completely flat road, we pass through the most significant places overlooking the Lake, such as Arona, Stresa, Verbania and Cannero, famous for its castles.
From Cannero the road begins to climb toward Piancavallo, retracing a section of the highlight stage of the 2015 Giro D’Italia. The length and elevation gain are comparable to the climb from Bormio to Stelvio: 20 km for 1,500 m of elevation gain. The breathtaking views make the climb very enjoyable.
